Frontier violence

When squatters set up outstations along the Darling in the 1850s, at Tintinallogy and elsewhere, the Paakantyi people resisted and, for some years, regained their land.

We don’t know much about this period along the Darling. The Native Police force was used to ‘quiet’ the area, but all their records have since been destroyed.

There are oral traditions that tell of massacres along the Darling. Certainly there was a huge population drop in those years.
